Greater Daytona Beach Senior Softball Association

WELCOME!  Thank you for your interest in the Greater Daytona Beach Senior Softball Association (GDBSSA). If you are new to GDBSSA, here is some basic information.

• GDBSSA is open to all players age 60 and up.  We are dedicated to making softball enjoyable for all who play.

• We play in two divisions - Junior division (age 60+) and Senior division (age 70+).  The JR division plays games Monday and Wednesday mornings, and the SR division plays games Tuesday and Friday mornings.

• We play three seasons each year - Approximate dates are Winter (January-March), Summer (May-July) and Fall (September-November).

• Open practices are held throughout the week, and are used for new player evaluations.

• Cost to play is $60 each season (team shirts available for additional fee).

• New players - please click on Contact Us to give us your information; we will contact you to arrange a "tryout".

For the Summer season only:  Teams will be allowed to have up to five (5) substitute players.

Fall 2025 Season - If you are interested in playing in the Fall 2025 season, YOU MUST confirm your participation by contacting Jane Flanigan for the Junior League or Glen Walker for the Senior League by no later than August 15th, 2025 so that your name can be included on the list for the Fall draft (their contact information is listed on the Commissioner's Corner page).

Summer 2025 Season

• Congratulations to the Cyclones and Coach Mark Merrell - Summer 2025 Senior League Regular Season Champions.

• Congratulations to the Silver Team and Coach Mitch Farbstein - Summer 2025 Junior League Regular Season Champions.

• The Junior (60+) league will begin play on Monday, May 5, 2025.

• The Senior (70+) league will begin play on Friday, May 2, 2025.

• The fee to play this season is $60 for each league.  Fee must be paid before playing (check or exact cash required).  Player liability waivers & guidelines must be signed before playing if we don't have one on file.

• (a) All players MUST wear their team’s designated color … with the league logo … for every game. (b) If a player is substituting on a team different from the one they were drafted onto that season, they will still be required to wear an official GDBSSA shirt … but it can be of any team’s color. A player in violation of (a) and/or (b) above will be given one (1) warning. Any violations after that, they will NOT be allowed to play that game. It is the responsibility of the team managers to ensure this rule is followed. Shirts are $8 each ($9 for XXL & larger) and can be paid with the league fee. Extra shirts are available in the storage facility.

• Players may be added to the sub list at any time.  Sub fee is $10 for the season (reduced to $5 after June 15), and must be paid to be added to the main sub list.

In Memoriam

• Our teammate and good friend, Dean Palamara, has recently lost the love of his life, Mary, to cancer. Dean has been in our league for over 25 years serving in many capacities. Dean is NOT on Facebook so we are posting this information here. Dean’s beautiful and heartfelt eulogy to Mary will be read by him at her funeral services on Saturday, July 12th. We all share in Dean’s sadness and extend our sincere, heartfelt condolences to him and his family.

Dean asked us to post this message from him: He would like to offer his sincere gratitude for the heartfelt outpouring of support which you’ve offered during this emotionally difficult time.  Thank you all.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED-UMPIRES

• Umpires are needed - contact Bob Morton for information and training.

• Umpire schedules will be updated for both divisions soon.

IN SEASON PRACTICES

• Monday - July 28, 2025 at 9:00 am at Coraci Park Recommended for Senior Players

• Friday - July 25, 2025 at 8:30am with Gary Klemens at Spruce Creek Recreational Facility (All Children's Park).

• Saturday - July 26, 2025 - 8:30 am at Strickland Park.

• Sunday - July 27, 2025 - Strickland Park fields will be open again for practice.

Please note that practice sessions are informal gatherings organized by league members and are not officially sanctioned by the Greater Daytona Beach Senior Softball Association (GDBSSA). Participants engage in these sessions voluntarily and at their own risk. By attending practice sessions, players acknowledge and assume all risks associated with softball activities. The GDBSSA, its officers, organizers, coaches, and volunteers are not liable for any injuries sustained during these unofficial practice sessions.
