Tryout and Practice Fields
General Guidelines and Procedure for GDBSSA Practice Sessions
If you get to the field before the equipment arrives, help with unloading and set-up.
Throwing / stretching should be before the first pitch.
If you arrive first, you get to bat first. If you come late or don't get to bat first, expect to shag some balls before entering the batting line. Keep in mind that some of the early batters will be pitching later in the practice.
Rotate through from fielding, to batting, to collecting the balls for the pitcher (known as the bucket). You will be relieved from the bucket when the next batter in rotation completes their batting.
If you are new, ask who the practice coordinator is and let them know you want to tryout.
If you need to leave early, clear it with the practice coordinator.
If you can, hang out until the end. You’ll get more field time, probably more pitches to hit and help the coordinator with picking up the equipment.
AND, for you experienced players, if you see someone at practice that you don’t know, introduce yourself.
Please note that practice sessions are informal gatherings organized by league members and are not officially sanctioned by the Greater Daytona Beach Senior Softball Association “GDBSSA”. Participants engage in these sessions voluntarily and at their own risk. By attending practice sessions, players acknowledge and assume all risks associated with softball activities. The GDBSSA, its officers, organizers, coaches, and volunteers are not liable for any injuries sustained during these unofficial practice sessions.
There are three (3) Different locations for practice fields. See below. In addition, we sometimes use the game fields for practice when they are available.
Location 1. All Children's Park off Spruce Creek Rd.
Location 2. Field 1 or 3 at Corner of City Center Drive and Herbert St, Port Orange.
Location 3. Coraci Softball Complex.
